|Check out the iPod!|
I have to say, I enjoyed this novel and liked it even better than its predecessor, Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict. Both of these books are by Laurie Viera Rigler, who with a skilled hand makes us feel what it would be like to live in the Regency era, or how a Regency gal would feel to live here in our time.
(Spoilers follow.) Jane finds herself in Courtney's body and with Courtney's problems. Luckily, she has an open mind and is somewhat of a free and rebellious spirit. She has to get over a lot of her Regency conventions to live in our time. Working for pay, bars, sexual freedom, cars, the Internet, iPods and handsome Wes truly throw her for a loop. But with the help of friends who try to understand why she talks "like Jane Austen" and who believe in her implicitly, as well as new friends and a mysterious fortune-teller, Jane soon finds that she likes and enjoys the 21st century. And of course, she is thrilled to discover all of Jane Austen's novels (there were only two in the time she came from) and video versions to enjoy. One can imagine how she felt when she saw Colin Firth! The same as all of us, I expect. The ending is quite unexpected (at least it was to me) as Jane does not return to the Regency era at all (and Courtney does not return to her time). Both girls end up where they really are meant to be. And they lived happily ever after (I love this part!).
Author Laurie Viera Rigler is very clever and keeps the pace moving. I found myself unable to put the book down and kept turning each page eagerly. I highly recommend this book for both Jane Austen and science fiction/time travel fans!
